Check out your local libraries for their summer activities. Most of our local libraries are providing motivational summer reading programs along with puppet shows, balloon guys, mad science, snake shows, music, and much, much more!!!! And guess what???? It's all FREE!!!!!
On 6/17/2010 we made our first summer library visit. This visit was not for an activity or show. It was because the boys were so excited to register for summer reading!!!! They knew they could earn prizes each week for reading and wanted to get started. One local library was offering a bag full of surprises for registering so we picked that one. Each child got a library backpack filled with bookmarks, pencils, stickers, coloring sheets about reading, a coupon for a free cookie at the library cafe, and a summer reading log.
After receiving their bags, both were so excited they had to immediately check out books. Now, let's be realistic...they are boys & they are 6...they wanted movies too. Here's the deal-- for every movie, you have to pick 2 books. With movies and books in hand, we headed for the library check out where the kids (with adult supervision) can scan their own books at check out!!!
This was a great start to some fantastic summer reading!!!!
