Today it hit me...

I am a Mom and a Teacher. I hear SAHM's complain that they do sooooooo much more work than the working Mom. I hear working mom's complain that SAHM's have no idea what it's like to work and care for a family. Well, I sort of have the best of both worlds, which is one reason I always wanted to be a teacher in the first place...

One complaint that I always have is why do so many Mom's whine and complain that summer is here or Winter Break is here? After all, these are the times I long for so that I can actually spend quality time with my own kids. I LOVE my vacations with MY kids!!! I love spending every moment with them. Of course I need a break every now and then and certainly every Mom needs her own time, but why oh why do I always hear --"I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE KIDS TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL" "THE KIDS ARE ALWAYS FIGHTING" "I HAVE SO MANY POOL TOWELS TO WASH - UGGHHH" and so on...and so on...and so on...

Then today it hit me. Today was one of the first days since vacation began that there wasn't an activity planned. It was a cleaning day for me and I just thought the kids could play by themselves for the day. Before the morning was over, I was already giving time-out warnings and scolding them for all the bickering going on. Yes, they were finding things to do and playing nicely for the most part, but they had no structure and knew how to get on each others nerves. I started thinking...this is the reason for all of those Mom complaints. The kids are home with no structured activities each and everyday and they begin to fight, argue, or just try to get at each other.

Right then and there I decided to start a blog about our summer vacation. No, we don't have a structured schedule right down to the times and minutes, but we do have a summer calendar all mapped out with an activity for each day. As I said, I'm a teacher. Therefore, I have to keep the costs low as well as many other families. It's not realistic to think that anyone can go out and spend money everyday on summer activities for their children. But I will attempt to help you come up with affordable activities to keep the kids going all summer long!!!!

ENJOY!!! :)
